My
admiration for popular brazilian art,
or ingenuity, as it is also known, goes back to 1974. I was
18 years old when I left home to pursue my undergraduate studies
at a university in the state of Pernambuco. It is located at
the northeastern part of Brazil, a region full of cultural expressions
of the most varied nature that captured my attention since day
one.
The northeastern part of Brazil is approximately 1.500.000-squared
Km, similar to the size of Mexico, endowed with a 2000 Km long
golden coast and crystal clear sea. It is surrounded in its
major part by a stripe of tropical forest that works as a natural
frontier to a vast dry region full of magic, traditions, and
men and women used to the rough life, work, and hope. |

The influence of Portuguese and Dutch colonists, together with the
existing ethnic groups and the African culture, is the base for one
of the most colorful popular expressions of brazilian
art,. Rich in motives and very well achieved, it is
unparalleled among other traditional artistic movements around the
world.
During all these years my wife Lete and I have maintained strong ties
with this region, its art and its traditions. We strongly believe
that this is the perfect moment to show the world this wonderful cultural
expression and we are committed to offer to our clients only the best
and most authentic of this beautiful brazilian art,.
We GUARANTEE that all we offer at TROPICALARTGIFTS.COM are original
pieces, 100% hand made using handcraft methods, many spontaneous,
and many that have been passed on from generation to generation. Only
autochthonous materials are used, as well as wood of excellent quality,
without the intervention of industrial machinery or mass production.
Although the pictures on this website define in great part each of
the pieces, they do not always honor their real art; only you will
be able to appreciate it when having it in your hands.
We sincerely hope that you enjoy these beautiful pieces of brazilian
art, as much as we do.
